The ultrastructure of the ciliary muscle of an old crab-eating monkey, with special reference to specific inclusions.

چکیده
The ultrastructure of ciliary muscle was studied in an old, healthy crabeating monkey. In the cytoplasm, large swollen mitochondria, interdigitated mitochondria, various types of myelin-like figures, dense coarse membranous structures, lysosomal dense bodies, round lipid-like bodies, transitional forms from lysosomal dense bodies to lipid-like bodies, lipofuscin pigments, whorl-like structures of agranular endoplasmic reticulum, coated vesicles, and multivesicular bodies were occasionally observed. Nexus was demonstrated between adjacent muscle cells. In the ciliary muscle, such findings were not only unknown in the earlier studies on the monkey species, but also some were never reported in any other species. Most of these inclusions were thought to be associated with cellular aging in relation to the presence of lipofuscin pigments and their related bodies, while the whorl-like structures might indicate either another type characteristic of the aged ciliary muscle or unknown pathological degeneration of the muscle. In addition, the possible occurence or the cytological significance of these inclusions, especially lipofuscin pigments, lipid-like bodies, whorl-like structures, dense coarse membranous structures, and myelin-like figures in the ciliary muscle, were discussed.

Ciliary Body Tuberculosis Presenting with Attacks of Acute Intraocular Pressure Rise
Purpose: To report a rare presentation of ophthalmic tuberculosis. Case Report: A 19-year-old man was referred to the glaucoma clinic due to multiple attacks of increased intraocular pressure (IOP) in his right eye. IOP of the right eye was 50 mmHg, and glaucomatous damage of the optic nerve was present. In gonioscopy, an oval-black lesion was present in the ciliary body band on the temporal si...
متن کاملOn the muscles of the foot in Formosan monkey and crab-eating monkey.
Gross anatomical study of the origin, insertion, nerve supply and variation of the musculature of the foot of Formosan monkey (10 feet) and Crab-eating monkey (13 feet) was done. And the results were compared with the finding for other primates, particularly the findings obtained by OKUDA. In this study, the differences among various primates or among various species of macaque could be determi...
متن کاملAlu-Derived Alternative Splicing Events Specific to Macaca Lineages in CTSF Gene
Cathepsin F, which is encoded by CTSF, is a cysteine proteinase ubiquitously expressed in several tissues. In a previous study, novel transcripts of the CTSF gene were identified in the crab-eating monkey deriving from the integration of an Alu element-AluYRa1. The occurrence of AluYRa1-derived alternative transcripts and the mechanism of exonization events in the CTSF gene of human, rhesus mon...
متن کاملThe trophic effect of ciliary neurotrophic factor on injured masseter muscle in rat
Objective(s): Occlusal trauma is one of the most common forms of oral biting dysfunction. Long-term occlusal trauma could weaken the stomatognathic system; especially damage one’s masticatory muscle. Through using the rat model, this study investigated the trophic effect of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) on injured masseter muscle. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats (n=36) were random...
متن کاملHistoanatomical study of the lens and ciliary body in ostrich eye
In the present study, the lenses and ciliary bodies of 20 ostrich eyes were studied macroscopically and microscopically. The histological slides were studied after staining by hematoxylin and eosin, Verhoeff, Van Gieson, and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS). Posterior surface of lens was more convex than its anterior surface. The average lens diameter and thickness were respectively measured as 1.43 ...
